How to take a screenshot on iPhone: 7 ways to capture your screen
taking a screenshot is easy, but the method of making a screenshot on an iPhone depends on the model you own. You can find out more in this article. Read on to find out how you can take a screenshot on every iPhone, both with and without the use of buttons.
Here are five ways to take a screenshot on your iPhone or iPad.
How you do a screenshot depends on which iPhone you have. The key combination changes depending on the model. But even if the required keys are broken on your iPhone, there are other ways to take a screenshot.
1. "Right side + volume keys" or "Home + Sleep".
An easy way to take a screenshot of your iPhone or iPad is to hold down the "Home" key and press the "Sleep / Wake" key at the same time. The image is saved to the camera roll.
From your camera roll, you can email your photo or upload it to your computer. Other options are discussed at the end of the article.
2. One button alternative
A guest commentator, Ele, found an alternative to the Home + Sleep option to take a screenshot. His keyboard iPad case has placed a shutter over the "sleep" button, making it inaccessible for taking a picture of the screen.
If you activate an accessibility option in the general settings, a floating button is created on the screen that allows you to take a screenshot without using the "Home" or "Sleep" buttons.
The floating button can be moved anywhere on the screen. When not in use, it dims but never completely disappears. If it is over something you want to touch on the screen, you can move it by touching and dragging the floating button.
This floating button can be activated on both iPhone and iPad. The first set of images shows the steps required to activate the floating button. (The images below were taken from my iPhone 4S. On my wife's iPad the views are similar, but not exactly the same).
3. How to screenshot on an iPhone X, 11, 12, or 13
If you have an iPhone without a home button, such as the above, including the iPhone XR, all you have to do is press the buttons for volume up and Sleep/Wake buttons to take a screenshot.
You don't have to make sure that you press them exactly at the same time. As long as it is close enough, your phone knows that it should not be at rest or increase the volume.
4. How to take a screenshot with Assistive Touch
The Assistive touch function of the iPhone is very useful, especially if one of its keys does not work. If you have never used this function, you can use it to create a digital button on the screen and assign your basic functions. In this way, you don't need physical keys to do something.
Proceed as follows to set up a supported touch for the recording of a screenshot:
- Open the app settings.
- Switch to input aids> Touch> Supported touch.
- Turn on Assistive Touch.
- Tap on the "Double Type" field.
- Choose screenshot.
As soon as Assistive Touch is set, simply look for the area on your iPhone from which you want to take a screenshot and tap the digital button that is now displayed on the screen.
5. How to do a screenshot with the touch support
The supported touch function of the iPhone is very useful, especially if one of its keys does not work.
- Activate contact support.
- Tap on the "Double Type" field.
- Choose screenshot.
As soon as Assisted Touch is set, simply look for the area on your iPhone from which you want to take a screenshot and tap the digital button that is now displayed on the screen.
6. screenshot app
WebCapture is a free utility available for the iPhone, but can also be used on the iPad. It is used to take a screenshot of a website.
It is a fairly simple application. When you open it, it acts like a browser. (Remember to add "http: //" in front of all URLs). This application is used to take a picture of the website (without status or toolbars). There is usually no need to crop or edit. The photo is saved to the camera roll.
Note: This application only takes a screenshot of the view on the screen and not an image of the entire website. (How your printer may offer the option to print "current view" or "current page").
7. touch an image
Do you see an image you like on a web page open in the Safari browser? You can touch and hold the image to save it to your camera roll or make a copy of it to attach to an email.
After opening the Safari browser on my iPhone, I went to the Grand Canyon website. By tapping and holding the panoramic image on the website, the phone opened a menu with 3 items: "Save image", "Copy" and "Cancel". (See the image of these results below).
Assuming I don't want to cancel this process, I have the option to "save" the image to the camera roll or create a "copy" of the image to paste into an email.
Below is a copy of the Grand Canyon panoramic image I emailed from my iPhone.
You are right. Technically, this isn't a screenshot. It is just a copy of an image on a web page. But often we just want an image and not the whole web page.
Use an image from your camera roll
Now that you've captured the image in your camera roll, what can you do with it? You actually have several options. It's possible:
- Send an email, SMS or tweet.
- Print it out if you have an AirPrint-enabled printer
- Download them to your computer the next time you sync.
- Automatically send it wirelessly to all your connected devices when using iCloud.
- Assign the picture to a contact or use it as wallpaper.
